ICAF recognized by the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command

Washington, DC - On August 1, 2003, the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command (USASMDC) honored the International Child Art Foundation's Chairman, Mrs. Harriet Fulbright and Executive Director, Dr. Ashfaq Ishaq, at its USASMDC's Army Family Action Plan Report-Out Session. ICAF was recognized in this event to promote awareness in the arts, an entity that has seen its funding diminished. Chairman Fulbright spoke on the importance of art education, advocating the rise of artistic projects that allow children to exert their learning and creativity process. Executive Director Dr. Ishaq commented on the need for participation in the arts. He introduced the upcoming 2003 International ChildArt Festival that will be held from September 9-11 on the National Mall in Washington, DC. A totem pole made by the USASMDC Teen Delegation Workshop made its debut at the conference; it will later be showcased at the National Mall during ICAF's festival. The totem pole was made in conjunction with Totem Rhythms' Founder and President Marietta Dantonio-Fryer and Vice President Richard Fryer.

The 2003 Army Family Action Plan Report-Out Session was held at the Crystal City Marriot in Crystal City, Virginia. The event was hosted by Lieutenant General Joseph Cosumano, Commanding General of USASMDC. On behalf of ICAF, Dr. Ishaq presented a painting done by a child artist from the Maldives to Mrs. Cosumano.
