Washington DC, The ChildArt Gallery 1404 K St. NW- Harnessing the boldness of color and honesty of expression inherent in children's art, Celebrating Color: International Children Envision Their World features the perspectives of our future leaders on subjects ranging from September 11th, AIDS, Globalization, and the War in Iraq to beautifully simple images of rural life.

Salaar Khan, age 10 of Pakistan describes the subject of his artwork: "Ahead of me is the world of today with factories that are giving out smoke and polluting the environment, missiles, a cracked ground and a dull sky and I am running towards it to change it."

The Celebrating Color exhibit displays a selection of pieces from a larger body of work created by children who competed in ICAF's 2003 Arts Olympiad. The event took four years to produce and reached over 1 million children worldwide. Sponsored by their native countries, child artists ages 8-12 traveled to Washington DC to create art and cross-cultural understanding. Artist George Rodrigue, creator of the "Blue Dog" was a mentor to the children as they painted and drew.

Memphis Media producer Rob Sawyer said of the 2003 Arts Olympiad that created the Celebrating Color artworks: "Colorful, hopeful, energetic, thought-provoking, dynamic! The raw materials of this show are talented energetic children from around the world, a quirky blue dog, a renowned artist, and a mission of peace. You can't go wrong."

The International Child Art Foundation has been organizing international children's arts festivals and Peace Through Art programs since its inception in 1996. Its initiatives have reached children in over one hundred countries.
