UNESCO's inaugural meeting for World Conference on Arts Education.

ICAF was the only US based organization that participated in UNESCO's first preparatory meeting for a historic World Conference on Arts Education to be held in Lisbon, Portugal in early 2006.

The ICAF delegation was led by Dr. Ashfaq Ishaq. The meeting was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris and was chaired by Milagros del Corral, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Culture. About twenty European arts and educational organizations attended the meeting. ICAF and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) were invited to make formal presentations on their work. Officials from the Council for Europe and the government of Portugal contributed to the discussion.

During his visit to UNESCO, Dr. Ishaq had productive meetings with several senior UNESCO staff members, including Mr. Abdul Waheed Khan, Assistant Director General of UNESCO and head of Information and Communications Sector.
