CONTACT: Media Relations ICAF to present at UNESCO's World Conference on Arts EducationUNESCO's World Conference on Arts Education will be held in Lisbon, Portugal on March 6-9, 2006. The Conference will bring together representatives of Ministries of Education and/or Culture from the UNESCO Member States, as well as various experts, practitioners and researchers, by invitation only. The aims of the Conference are to define a common understanding of the meaning of quality arts education and to strengthen creativity in the teaching of arts practices. A final declaration will reiterate that arts education disciplines are important learning topics in themselves and moreover have an impact on children and adolescents intellectual and personal development, as well as on their ethical and social behavior. ICAF was invited to the First Coordination Meeting for the Preparation of the World Conference held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on May 3, 2004. ICAF was the only U.S. based organization that attended this meeting. ICAF and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) made special presentations during this meeting. A paper on "Prosperity and Peace through Art" prepared for the World Conference by Dr. Ashfaq Ishaq, ICAF's Executive Director is available for comments. [Prosperity and Peace through Art] Dr. Ishaq is also invite to be a keynote speaker at the International Congress of the International Society of Education through Art (InSEA) to be held in Viseu, Portugal on March 1-5, right before the World Conference. # # # The International Child Art Foundation is a nonprofit organization that prepares children for a creative and cooperative future so they can lead us into a safer and better world.
