World Bank Hosts ICAF.s Healing Arts Exhibition and Panel Discussion

As part of the World Bank. Art Program's Destruction, Reconstruction and Prevention initiative dedicated to those who have suffered from and survived natural and man-made disasters, the World Bank hosted an International Child Art Foundation during the month of December 2005.

The ICAF exhibition was comprised of artworks made by the Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina child victims. The amazing works of art, on exhibit at the World Bank Main Complex at 1818 H Street, NW, Washington, DC captivated both bank staff and visitors. Ms. Marina Galvani, World Bank.s Art Curator, arranged the exhibition.

On December 1st, the World Bank Art Program hosted an exhibition reception at which Mr. Jemal-ud-din Kassum, Regional Vice President for East Asia and Pacific spoke about bank.s involvement in reconstruction and prevention efforts and thanked ICAF for its work.

On December 13th, the World Bank hosted a panel discussion on ICAF's Healing Arts Program. Dr. Ashfaq Ishaq, ICAF Executive Director; Dr. Robin Goodman, ICAF Advisory Board Member; and Astrid Wenger-Rosenberg, Managing Editor of ChildArt magazine special issue on the healing arts made presentations. The World Bank taped the discussion for its regional and in-country offices worldwide.

The bank's Destruction, Reconstruction and Prevention initiative was organized in collaboration with ICAF, National Geographic Channel and the BBC.

The International Child Art Foundation (ICAF) employs the arts to heal, inspire and unify children across the globe while the World Bank has become one of the largest suppliers of reconstruction and development assistance around the world.
