September 8, 2006 A Summer of Exhibitions in Washington DC Four separate exhibitions of the International Child Art Foundation were held in Washington, DC in the summer of 2006, and two of these exhibitions will continue through autumn. The Peace Through Art: World Pieces Exhibition was held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in downtown DC from August 3rd to 30th. The exhibition is composed of works by young Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot artists, created under ICAF's Cyprus Peace Through Art Program. The Contemporary Catastrophe Exhibition was held at the Diplomatic and Consular Officers Retired (DACOR) Bacon House at 1801 F Street, NW from July 10th to August 18th. The exhibition includes images of chaos wrought by Hurricane Katrina and examples of art created with goals beyond chronicling and coping, such as imagining a "safe place" and personifying "the other". Peace Through Art exhibition continues at American University's Intercultural Management Institute' To view the exhibition, visitors should contact Anna Lee, the Institute's program coordinator. Major exhibitions are planned later this year in Lisbon, Portugal and London, England. ICAF's partners and art patrons plan to host exhibitions in different cities to support the World Children's Festival to be held on The National Mall in Washington DC in June 2007. To host an exhibition please contact Patricia McKee by email at media@icaf.org. The International Child Art Foundation is the only international non-governmental organization that promotes children's creative development and cross-cultural cooperation through the arts. | ||
