2008 MAYOR'S ARTS AWARD FINALIST FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO ARTS EDUCATION CONTACT: A blue ribbon arts panel at the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities selected Dr. Ashfaq Ishaq, founder and executive director of the International Child Art Foundation for the Mayor's Arts Awards, which will be presented at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on March 17, 2008. The Mayor's Arts Awards are the most prestigious honors conferred by the city on individual artists, organizations and patrons of the arts. Dr. Ishaq, a former professor of economics at the George Washington University, was selected as finalist in the category: Outstanding Contribution for Arts Education. He developed the Arts Olympiad, a free global arts-based program for children around the world, and hosted the 3rd World Children's Festival on the National Mall in June 2007. His research paper "Prosperity and Peace through Art" was published in the inaugural issue of the e-Journal of the UNESCO Observatory on Multi-Disciplinary Research on Arts Education. Also last week the Arts Education Partnership released its nationwide survey among likely voters, which showed 88% of American voters believe that an education in and through the arts is important to innovation and one's success in a global knowledge-based economy, and essential to success in the 21st Century. www.TheImagineNation.net The ICAF was founded in 1997 as the national art and creativity organization for American children and the international art organization for children around the world in order to harness their imagination for positive social change. | ||
