World Children's Festival 2003

Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, co-chair of the Congressional Arts Caucus, and First Lady of the Marshall Islands opened the festival. Children from Kuwait and Nigeria performed at the opening ceremony, which was attended by senior Pentagon officials. Representatives from 70 countries and 30 states from the U.S. and the District of Columbia participated in the festival. Then-Washington DC Mayor Anthony Williams presented ICAF with an official proclamation designating September 11 as “Children's Peace Day.” Child artists co-created the Art for Peace Pyramid with Louisiana artist, George Rodrigue.

We are most grateful to the Qatar Foundation, Wendy and George Rodrigue, Mr. and Mrs. Dieter Giesbrecht, and The Office of the Crown Prince, Kingdom of Bahrain for their financial support.
